Kristi

Hillsborough/Mebane

Hi, my name is Kristi. I am a native of Carrboro but moved to Mebane recently. I have a 21-year-old daughter who is now in college. I grew up with numerous cats and dogs, as well as having a house full now, which includes a golden retriever named Jessie, a beagle named NaNa, and 2 cats named Maci and Laci. I work with various rescues transporting animals out of high kill shelters to rescues or private adopters. I have worked with VIP for several years and have enjoyed meeting new animals and caring for them. I have always loved animals of all kinds and will always treat your pets as if they were my own.

Janice

Hillsborough/Mebane/North Durham

I recently moved back to NC after living in Arkansas, Ohio and Texas the last 10 years and working as a collections curator for historical sites. I came back from Texas with 7 pets — 2 dogs (Henry, Georgia) and 5 cats (Marmalade, Cookie, E.B., Elliot and Buster.) The squirming guys in the photo are Henry and Marmalade. I am loving meeting all the VIP pets.

Karen

Chapel Hill/Carrboro

Karen Trocke-Kandah has been an employee with Very Important Pets for 13 years. She grew up in a small community in Minnesota and had grandparents and uncles with farms and plenty of animals. Horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, geese and ducks were always a part of growing up. Trixie and Maxine were her two dogs growing up. Today she has an avid passion and love for all animals, especially dogs. No matter what kind of day she is having and she sees how excited the animals are to see her, it makes everything else seem small. Karen lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, daughter and a beagle named Honeybee. They adopted Honeybee from a foster home in October of 2013.

Erin

Chapel Hill / Durham

My name is Erin Wallace and I am a lifelong animal lover. After a brief time with Americorps in Alabama, I have returned to North Carolina to work at UNC. Since then I have adopted two rescue cats that are spoiled rotten. I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Julie

South Durham

Hi! My name is Scooter and I am the beautiful orange tabby cat. The black imp, cat is Katydid. Our owner is Julie Smith, a pet sitter for VIP.  Sixteen years ago Julie rescued me from a life on the mean streets of Chapel Hill and gave me the the loving home that is the birthright of all fur children. Katydid came to us from Independent Animal Rescue seven years ago, it was rough at first, and I wasn't too thrilled until I realized that there was enough cat food and love for both of us. She has been pet sitting for VIP since July of 2003. While we weren't sure what to think about this at first we could smell lots of other cats and dogs, but we never saw any of them we finally figured out that it was okay, because they never come home with her. She takes such good care of us that we don't mind the TLC she gives to your fur children. We would have sent a picture of her but we don't have opposable thumbs, whatever that means.

Kenneth

East Durham/Brier Creek

I love animals! I can still remember riding with my parents to get my first pet when I was two. She was a beautiful Collie. Since then I've always had a variety of pets and have kept many dogs & cats as well as some of the more unusual pets. I'm currently living with 3 cats, a finch, & two fish aquariums. I truly love this job and appreciate the opportunity to care for your pets while you're away.
